Install Error Codes
Install Error Codes
Is there any documentation on the error codes return from the PDF Print install.exe. Specifically return code 2?

Family Tree Maker 2005; Error Code 2; Lost ActiveX File
I, too, am having a problem with Family Tree Maker 2005 on one PC but not another, both using Win2000. The PC where "export to PDF" won't function shows the following during the install.exe operation:
Copying and Registering ActiveX file
Error Code 2
System cannot find the file specified
What file is being sought and where should it be?
All the files in the Family Tree Maker subdirectory have had any 'Read Only' removed and I am logged on as the administrator in all instances.
Family Tree Maker tech service has been trying to help but they haven't had any success so far.

Hello,
The files that could be marked as read only are :
cdintfx.dll in the System32 directory
acpdfx.dll and acpdfuix.dll in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\SPOOL\DRIVERS\W32X86 and/or C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\SPOOL\DRIVERS\W32X86 \3
x stands for the version number of the PDF Converter you are trying to install with Family Tree Maker (This should be 20, 210 or 250).
Hope this helps.

Hello Joan,
Many thanks for your reply. Unfortunately all the files (version 250) are present and not "read only" yet the error persists.
Can you suggest any other reasons that the Error Code 2 might appear?
Could it be that I should have version 20 or 210? How would I find out?
Could I just load all three versions in the right subdirectories and let the program sort things out or would the three interfere with one another?
Again, many thanks for your patience and help.

Hello,
No you shouldn't install all the versions of the PDF Converter. The version you have with Family Tree Maker should install fine on your system.
Please search for cdintf*.* in your system directory and let me know how many cdintf.dll files you have in your system32 directory and whether any of these files is marked as read only.
Also please tell me which version of the PDF Converter is shipped with Family Tree Maker (you can know this by right clicking on any dll of the PDF Converter and choose Properties -> Version.
Thanks.

Hello Joan,
I had the following:
In c:\Windows\system32\cdint250.dll
In C:\WNNT\system32\cdint250.dll
Neither was read-only
I found in the c:\Program Files\Family Tree Maker 2005 directory the files are acfpdf.dll is ver 0.2.0.2102; acfpdf.drv is 2.1.0.2; acfpdfu.dll is 0.2.0.2102; acfpdfui.dll is 0.2.0.2102 cdintf210.dll is 2.1.0.2.
Evidently, I had a mismatch between the two versions - 210 and 250. I may also have a problem with the paths, i.e., Family Tree Maker may want the files in the Windows\System32 path or the WNNT\32 path.
I deleted all the acfp... files from everywhere I found them except the c:\WNNT\System32\spool\drivers\w32x86\2 subdirectory where access was denied. I also deleted all the cdint250.dll files.
Next I ran the install.exe program from the Family Tree Maker directory. I got the usual message about not finding an Active X file causing error 2.
I found that the acpdf... files were installed in c:\WNNT\System32\spool\drivers\w32x86 and in c:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\w32x86. There was no cdint*.dll to be found anywhere! So, I copied cdint210.dll to the two System32 subdirectories from the Family Tree Maker directory.
I then deleted the Amyuni printer from my installed printers again and reinstalled it. I got the same error 2 message, as usual.
So now my system has the following:
The Amyuni Document Converter is shown installed in my printer list with Port LPT1.
cdint210.dll is in both the WNNT\System32 and Windows\System32 subdirectories and the acpdf... files are in both the WNNT and Windows paths in the System32\spool\drivers\w32X86 subdirectories and in the Windows...w32x86\2 subdirectory from which I am still unable to delete them because they are "being used by windows".
I think you should know that in the Properties for the printer the "Security" tab indicates "Unable to display security information"
Finally, the export function in my Family Tree Maker is still not functioning.
The most frustrating thing is that my wife's PC, running Win 2000 has the program installed and it works just fine there. The error message re an ActiveX file never has appeared there either.

Hello,
It seems you have two versions of the PDF Converter installed on your system. Version 2.10 installed with Family Tree Maker and version 2.50 (installed with wich product?)
These two versions can be installed in parallele and no interaction should occur between them.
i suggest that you reboot your system and then delete the pdf convert dlls from the following directory:
c:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\w32x86 (delete the dlls of version 2.10 only).
Then reboot your system again and try to install the printer.

Joan,
Given that the 210 version was installed by Family Tree Maker 2005 on my wife's PC, I'm sure that Family Tree Maker is trying to install the 210 version from the install.exe app in its subdirectory. That's why I copied the 210 versions of all the dll's from the Family Tree Maker subdirectory into all the subdirectories under WNNT and Windows to be in the same places as those found in my wife's Windows/.... paths.
Regardless, with the 210 versions of all the dll's in the correct paths starting from either c:\Windows or c:\WNNT the problem with the Error 2 message remains unchanged and the 'printer' is not installed correctly insofar as Family Tree Maker on my PC is concerned. The key remains, I believe, identifying what ActiveX file is required by install.exe and where should it be.

Hello,
The "Error Code: 2" indicated in the install.log file typically occurs when certain “HP Printer Drivers" are installed on the system. We have found that some “HP Printer Drivers" restrict access to a file we need to over write during our installation process. This situation will only occur with ver 2.10x of the PDF Converter.
If your wife or you have a HP Printer installed on your system, please look in your system's task manager for a process called "HPZTSB0#.EXE".
If they find this processes running, end the process and try re-installing your driver.
Note: # can be a number any number from 1 to 9
Hope this helps?

I've decided that I've messed up my PC so badly at this point that further pursuit of this problem will be fruitless unless I clear up a few other things that have started to appear.
Thanks for all your help but I'm going to put further work on this matter on the back burner for a while. I may have to save what I can of my data files, format my hard drive to clear out all the hidden bugs and start all over.
All the very best and thanks again for your patience

Hello Joan,
This is just a note to close the issue you have been so kind to try to help me with.
I reinstalled my Win 2000 as a 'repair' rather than full reinstall. Afterward I used Registry Mechanic repeatedly to scan and make repairs to the registry. I had to reinstall a number of programs, too. While I was at it, I uninstalled the Family Tree Maker and when I felt the rebuilt system was stable I reinstalled it and the converter worked without a hitch. I can only surmise that the ActiveX file that was causing the error was something installed by Windows that was either deleted or corrupted. Reinstalling the Win2000 fixed the file so that the converter is not working as designed.
Again, thanks for your help.
All the best.
