PDF Converter - Merge intermittent

Post by erikf »

Hi All - getting frustrated.

PDF Converter 2.1 here, Vis Foxpro 8. I have a situation where I'm trying to place a file number on the top of various existing PDF documents. I create a PDF with the file number on it, open it using the cdintfex.document control (active-x). I then use the MERGE method passing the document I'm trying to merge mine "on top of" and pass the parameter of 2. I then save it to another file name and bingo - works great. (2003 server, XP workstation). Except at the client site...

They are running on a Windows 2003 server and use windows 2000 workstations, or connect on 2003 terminal services machine. In either case, whenever the merge runs only the document that's being named as a file is being included in the combined doc. I've tried all possible parameters - using the MergeEx() - everything. Nothing works. It's only the merge functions, as I'm combining up to 10 other documents into a single PDF with your product and it works perfectly.

Is there some kind of security thing I'm running up against? Any ideas?

Hello,

Where are the files you are trying to merge stored? on the server or on the client machine?

Does the client have full access to these files and to the directory where they are stored?

If the files are being merged correctly on the server, than you can try to store these two files on the client machine and try to merge them if the merge went fine than it would be most probably an issue with the rights the user has over these files or the folders in which these files are stored on the server.

Thanks.

Intermittent merge

Post by erikf »

Joan

One of the PDF files is located on their server, the other is created on the fly in their local temp folder. Just to test the rights theory, I copied the PDF on the server down to the local temp folder and merged the two from there - Same result. It's not a matter of user rights or file attributes.

I even wrote a small program that asks for two PDF files (from anywhere) and merges the two together one over the top of the other. Works great here - falls on it's face there.

Next, I checked the registry to make sure there wasn't a problem with the license key. Company name and license number match.

I'm open to any other ideas ...

Thank you!

Hello Erik,

Are both PDF files on your customer site generated by our PDF Converter?

If not it could be that version 2.1 that you have doesn't support the file that is not created by our driver.

In this case you can try to use our latest version 2.50 instead to see if it supports your files, you can download version 2.50 from our site www.amyuni.com If the problem persists you can send us a sample two files that you are not able to merge to check them.

Hope this helps

Still - Merge Intermittent

Post by erikf »

Hi Joan,

One of the PDF files is a scanned image produced by their Canon IR4000 scanner - the other is generated with PDF Converter 2.1.

I'd try the new version, but I don't think that'll do the trick. If I take the two docs that fail to merge at their site, transfer them to my server, they merge perfectly every time. I've tried copying the one document from the server to the users temp folder before merging and it still doesn't work.

Perhaps I could send you the trouble PDF? Maybe you can see something in the documents that's fuddling up the works. Just let me know where to send it and I'll get it right to you.

Thank you for your time and attention. I know tracking down the wierd stuff and dealing with frustrated geeks can be tough <g> - I appreciate it.

Hello,

Sending me the trouble file may not be of great help if the exact two files are merging properly on your system than the PDF Converter does support these files.

Please let me know if using version 2.50 will help, please check that you restart the system after installing 2.50, if it didn't then will try to track this issue in more details.

Thanks.

What is HTTP proxy server?
HTTP proxy server is a proxy allowing to work on the Internet with HTTP and (not always) FTP protocols. It can carry out caching of information downloaded from the Internet. Now HTTP proxy servers are the most widespread. Their support (ability to use them) is included into many programs: browsers, download managers etc. However, their support is not realized at a level of an operating system ? in order to use them, you should configure all programs, which should use proxies, in an appropriate way. HTTP proxy servers have several anonymity levels.
