Hi all!

Currently i have a problem with Amyuni Printer. Now, this is only one machine out of hundreds that i support so this a "machine only issue".
I submit the job through the AmyUni PDF Converter and it will create the file, however it will be a 0KB file and attempting to open it (Adobe reader/foxit reader) will result in errors. Usually when this happens it means that the security permissions have failed on one of the certificate files in: “C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\MachineKeys\”, and all you have to do is go to the properties of each and click the security tab, then you will get a “you do not have permission to view this” error message. So you take ownership of the file, push the permissions down from the folder again and we are usually good to go. However, on this machine, the machine keys file/folder is setup properly, no errors.
So what I’ve done so far is:
- Verified user has Adminstrator rights
- Checked to make sure user had rights to print to the amyuni printer
- Checked permissions on MachineKeys folder and files inside the folder
- Given “Everyone” “Full Control” permission for machinekeys and all files downstream.
- Checked permissions on the folder where we are saving the file to
- Upgraded adobe reader to version 8
- Deleted the amyuni printer, reinstalled
- Deleted the amyuni printer, removed printer files from machine (server properties in the printers folder), reinstalled
- Deleted the amyuni printer, uninstalled adobe reader 8, rebooted, installed adobe reader 8, reinstalled amyuni
- Deleted the amyuni printer, removed printer files from the machine, removed all references to amyuni in the registry, then reinstalled
- Set the amyuni printer to use the com1 port
- Created a local port for the amyuni printer and set the printer to it

I’m down to thinking that this is a certificate issue somewhere. I do not think that it is a permissions issue for access to files or registry settings. My reasoning behind this is that I’ll actually create the file, however, it won’t output anything into the file. Any in my reading somewhere i read that the basic pdf file needs certificates (i can't remember where i found it thou). So to me the amyuni driver can not verify/validate that it has rights to output into the pdf file. The strange thing is that most of what I can find on the MachineKeys folder is that it is part of the machine key certificate pair for IIS. However, this is an XP machine (with no IIS installed).

The other machines in the office work fine so I do not think it is a Printer Driver issue or a file permissions issue. To me it has to do with the certificate for some reason. Either the key pair is out of sync or something. I think that this can be resolved by either:
a) Generating a new certificate for the machine.
- However, I do not know how I can generate a new key for the machinekeys folder
b) Setting the permissions for the appropriate certificate.
- However, I don’t know where to look.

If you have any tips on what I can do to resolve this for my client that would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

I am logged on as administrator to my machine and i never had to change the MachineKeys persmissions.

now when reading your post i went to:
“C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\ApplicationData\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\MachineKeys\”
I right clicked on one of the files, selected property and get the message "you do not have permission to view this...you can take ownership...ect...".
I used to be able always to use the PDF Converter printer whithout the need to change these permissions or to take ownership of the files.

I suggest the following:
Please try to do a clean install of the PDF Converter on this machine. No need to unistall any other application like Adobe Reader or so. Please make sure that you are installing the same version installed on the other machines.
Clean Install of the PDF Converter
1 - Go to start -> Programs -> Amyuni PDF Converter -> Unistall (lunch the unistaller)
2 - Go tho the printers folder and make sure that the Amyuni PDF Printer is unistalled and that there is no other versions of the PDF Printer installed on the system.
3 - In the registry please delete the printer key from HKEY-Current-Config -> Software and the Amyuni Technologies key from KHEY-Current-User -> Software. (Please note that it is not advisable to alter the registry keys or delete any keys from the registry even for a clean install, however for this specific case i am suggesting you to do it).
4 - Delete the following files from the system:
acfpdf*.*
cdintf*.*
5 - Reboot your system
6- Install the PDF Printer again.
If the above didn't help please send an email to support@amyuni.com along with the sample generated file.
