I'm a little confused here. I have version 2.10i-6 of the PDF converter printer driver, and it installs fine on Windows 2003/XP.
We recently tried to use a Microsoft utility called PrintMig that allows us to migrate the installed printers to another server. This utility fails indicating that the PDF driver is kernel mode. Further to this, if you look at "Printers and Faxes" -> "Server Properties" -> "Drivers", it shows the PDF driver as "Windows NT 4.0" only, where all the other drivers say "Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003". Apparently, this string is what is used by the utility to identify kernel mode drivers (or at least, this is what I guess since the utility fails, but the normal printer install works fine).
Is this supported OS's string maintained by Amyuni, or is it generated by the OS based on the driver files?
Thanks in advance.
Alex
Is the 2.10i version User-Mode or Kernel Mode Driver?
I found the following on the forums (referenced in several places) stating that 2.1x of the PDF Converter includes a user-mode printer driver. The driver installs fine on XP/2003 without disabling the security policy, but the 2003 OS still identifies it as a version 2 (kernel mode) driver.
Error Code 1930: Your Print Driver is not compatible with a policy enable on your computer
Source: This occurs under XP or Windows 2003, if the security policy "Enable installation of Kernel mode printer drivers" in the local security policy is set to off.
Resolution: Set this policy to ON (http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... -us;282011) or upgrade to version 2.1 of the Amyuni PDF Converter, which has an additional user-mode printer driver that overcomes this issue.
So I guess my question is, does 2.10i include a user mode driver, or is the above statement incorrect?
Thanks again.

Hello,
The Amyuni PDF Converter printer driver that you have installed is definitely "user-mode" driver and fully compatible with win2003.
However with version 2.10 the installation procedure will place the DLLs in the "... W32X86\2" directory for backwards compatibility.
You can also verify that version 2.10 is effectively a "user-mode" driver by trying to install it under a win2003 system. Windows 2K/XP/.NET by default will not use Windows NT printer (“kernel-modeâ€) driver in order to provide better system stability and if you try to install one of these “kernel-mode†drivers Windows will generate a “Printer Driver Is Not Compatible If a Policy Is Enabled on Your Computer" error message.
If you try to install any version 2.07 and higher of the PDF Converter no message is generated which indicates that it is "user-mode" driver and fully compatible with win2003.
In order to avoid this situation or confusion our new version 2.50 of the PDF Converter the printer drives installs all of its dlls into the “C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3â€.
Hope this helps?
