Amyuni for NT incompatible with Windows Server 2003?

Post by staffords »

Hello. I've built a FoxPro app that uses the FLLINTF.FLL library to install, use, and then remove Amyuni PDF Converter for Windows NT® professional version. It's working great on Windows XP machines, but an API exception occurs on Windows Server 2003. The GetLastErrorMsg CDI call returns the following error message:

"The printer driver is not compatible with a policy enabled on your computer that blocks NT 4.0 drivers."

After some research, I found this
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=282011
and tried disabling this policy. But it didn't help. Is Amyuni PDF Converter for Windows NT simply incompatible with Windows Server 2003?

Hello,

The issue you are encountering is related to the fact that Windows
2K/XP/.NET by default will not use Windows NT printer driver in order to
provide better system stability. This issue will only occur on versions 2.06 and earlier of the PDF Converter.

You can resolve this issue by following either the instructions below or upgrading your version of the PDF Converter. If you which further information on the update path available to you please contact our sales department (sales@amyuni.com)

The Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - #282011 explains how to resolve the
"Printer Driver Is Not Compatible If a Policy Is Enabled on Your Computer"
issue you are encountering. I have also included a link.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... -us;282011

You can turn on the use of NT printer drivers by opening a group policy for
your computer. This can be done by the following steps.

From the task bar click on:
Start=> Run=> mmc
In the resulting Dialog box click on:
File=> Add/Remove Snapin => Add=>Group Policy Object Editor => Add => Local
Computer=> Finish=> Close=>OK , Next back in MMC, select Computer
Configuration=>Administrative Templates=> Printers=> double-click on
"Disallow installation of printers using kernel-mode drivers". In the
resulting dialog select the Disable radio button and click ok. Save the
Console1.msc file and exit.

Hope this helps?

Thanks for the response Jose. I have already disabled the policy blocking kernal-mode drivers, but it doesn't help. I still get the same error message. I'm using version 2.0, so perhaps my only option is to upgrade or use something else.

Hello,

As a generale note here, version 2.0 is a little bit old, supports for Windows 2003 starts with version 2.08 of the driver (2.08 directly follows 2.06). We have released two major versions since then, 2.10 and 2.50.

Thanks.
