Printer does not install, no error codes

Post by bradc »

Hi,

Has anyone seen a problem where the Amyuni Printer driver cannot be installed on a Windows 2000 Server machine, but no error code is generated? The output from the log file is such:

Code: Select all

Windows 2000/XP Install
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chem Alert 2 Intranet
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Installing printer driver
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Once it get's the the 'Installing printer driver' line, it just bombs out without any error message at all.

The command to install the printer is as follows, and it fails with or without the silent flag:

install.exe -s "Chem Alert 2 Intranet" -n "Risk Management Technologies" -c "<<license key removed>>"

Any help you can give would be appreciated.
Thankyou
Brad

Hello,

Will you get the same issue if you run:

Install.exe "Chem Alert 2 Intranet" only ?

If so, please check that you have administrative rights on the server to install a printer.

Thanks.

Hi Joan,

Yes... unfortunately the same problem. I have domain administrative rights, and have also tried under the local administrator account - same result.

I have removed the Amyuni Driver (seems to semi-get installed), restarted the Printer Spooler/ rebooted the server and retried. Still no luck. Yet other printers are getting installed fine.

BTW - the driver version is 2.10h

Look forward to any further advice you may have.
Thanks

Hi,

You can try to download our latest version from our site (either demo or release) and try to install it to see if you will face the same issue.

Thanks.

Unfortunately no joy. I used the version 2.10i with the same result.

I take it there's not way to force a more detailed logging of exactly what the installer is doing to isolate exactly where it's crashing?

Hello,

You can try to completely remove older version of the driver and install the new one by following the below step:

1 - Run the command "install -u" from the directory where you have the driver currently installed. This should remove the Amyuni PDF Printer from the printers folder.

2 - Search and remove all instances of the files below:
acfpdf.dll
cdintf.dll
acfpdf.drv
acfpdfu.dll (possibly not installed)
acfpdfui.dll (possibly not installed)
acfpdf.txt
pdfmon.dll (possibly not installed)
acpdfui*.dll
acpdfu*.dll(possibly not installed)
acpdf*.dll

3 - Open the registry by running Regedit and the delete the printer name key under Hkey_Current_Config --> Software --> (Printer Name).

4 - Reboot your system

5 - Verify that the Amyuni PDF Converter driver is no longer in the printers folder

After you have finished the above steps, please install the new version and let us know if this resolves your issue.

Thanks.

Still no joy :(

I've been beating my brow over this one - everything I try does nothing to improve the situation. Let me recap.

I've effectively uninstalled Amyuni completely (removed all amyuni files, deleted all registry entries, confirmed all printers removed, and restarted the server). I then re-run the install.exe "Chem Alert 2 Intranet" and get the same result. Log file goes up to the Installing Printer Driver and then terminates.

So, looking at the file system, I now have:
  • c:\WINNT\system32\cdintf210.dll
    c:\WINNT\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\acfpdf.txt
    c:\WINNT\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\acpdf210.dll
    c:\WINNT\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\acpdfui210.dll
    c:\WINNT\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\2\acfpdf.txt
    c:\WINNT\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\2\acpdf210.dll
    c:\WINNT\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\2\acpdfui210.dll
I also get the Amyuni Document Converter 2.10 in the "Server Properties > Drivers" listing, and it shows exactly the same as my local PC (which is working fine)

The DLL files listed above are correctly shown in the registry under the SharedDLLs list (acpdf210.dll, acpdfui210.dll).

So it appears that the Printer Driver is installed correctly, and that it's failing on the installation of the printer itself. Joan, are you able to provide a breakdown of exactly what it is trying to do here?

Also to note, I can install other printers with no problems at all - in fact there are quite a few other drivers installed:
  • AdobePS Acrobat Distiller
    Amyuni Document Converter 2.10
    Epson LQ-870 ESC/P 2
    Epson Stylus COLOR 1520 ESC/P 2
    Generic / Text Only
    HP 2500C Series
    HP 2500C Series PS3
    HP Color LaserJet 4500
    HP Color LaserJet 8500 PS
    HP DesignJet 650C (C2858A)
    HP DesignJet 650C (C2859A)
    HP DesignJet 650C (C2859B)
    HP DesignJet 650C v2013.109
    HP DeskJet 870C
    HP LaserJet 2100
    HP LaserJet 2100 Series PS
    HP LaserJet 4
    HP LaserJet 4 Plus
HP LaserJet 4/4M Plus PS 300
HP LaserJet 4/4M Plus PS 600
    HP LaserJet 4000 Series PCL
    HP LaserJet 4050 Series PCL
    HP LaserJet 4050 Series PS
    HP LaserJet 4L
    HP LaserJet 4M
    HP LaserJet 5
    HP LaserJet 5/5M - Standard
    HP LaserJet 5000 Series PCL
    HP LaserJet 5M
    IBM ExecJet 4076 II
    Kyocera FS-3700+ (KPDL-2)
    Windows NT Fax Driver
Any advice anyone can give will be most warmly received...
Thanks

Hello,

I will check this issue with our developers. Meanwhile please give me the following information:

1 - If you try to print from Word or Excel or any other application, you don't fine the Amyuni Document Converter listed in the Printers' list?

2 - Did you download our latest demo 2.10i-8, this is was available on our site since Nov 25th.

3 - When installing the Demo, did you try to run the exe file you got instead of running Install.exe?

4 - When running Install.exe, did you run to omit any options like -n, -c, or printer name? Did you try to run Install.exe along?

Thanks.
