Conflict with MS Internet Explorer

Post by james.walters »

We installed a demo Amyuni PDF Converter, Developer Professional version, on two machines - an XP Pro workstation and a Windows 2000 server. We used the second example in technical note #1 to configure for converting an MS Word document to PDF from an ASP script. This meant a default install of the PDF Converter, giving the IIS IUSR guest account some COM object permissions with dcomcnfg, and updating the properties setting for the MS Word COM object.

On both machines we noticed that the Internet Explorer Web browser no longer functions after installing and using the PDF Converter this way. Both machines are fully patched and running the latest version of IE (6.0 SP1), but now IE cannot open popup windows and the Open in New Window option does not respond for hyperlinks and clicking the File/Print... menu option in IE causes the error message:

Line: 228
Char: 1
Error: 'dialogArguments.__IE_PrintType' is null or not an object
Code: 0
URL: res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\shdoclc.dll/preview.dlg

Changing the browser configuration or reinstalling the browser does not remedy the issue. This issue seemed to occur immediately after the first install and use of the PDF Converter (which does convert Word to PDF documents correctly). Do you have any idea what is causing this or how to fix it?

May be Windows OS/.NET issue

Post by james.walters »

Upon doing some research, it looks like this may be an issue with the Windows operating system or the .NET Framework. I see recent records of people having the same problem immediately after installing other applications, but no solution yet.

Hello,

I suspect that you are correct. I have found a knowledge base article that mentions the error you are encountering.

Hope this helps.
