PDF Converter hangs when called from webservice (w3wp.exe)

Post by ThomasUttendorfer »

Hi,
we wrote a reports.exe (32 Bit) which prints on Amyuni PDF Printer Driver 5.5.0.3.
When called from commandline or windows Explorer it works as expected.
But when called from an IIS webservice (w3wp.exe) it hangs when printing.

"Hang" means:
- Process "reports.exe" stays in memory.
- Execution stops at the exact moment when calling "SalReportPrint(..)" (the printing command of our development environment)

This is what we already checked:
- Even when the webservice is run under the exact same user account.
- On Server 2008 and 2012 (both 64 Bit).
- When using Amyuni PDF Converter 4.0.1.2 printing works. But not when using version 5.5.0.3.
- We can't control the printing process since our development environment (Gupta TeamDeveloper) does it for us.

Does anyone have some clues?
We have to update to 5.5.0.3 because 4.0.1.2 does not work on Windows 10 client machines where reports.exe also has to run.

Hello,

The situation you are describing is similar to what happens when printing to Amyuni PDF Converter developer version and using a license with that does not have the server option enabled.

With the release of version v5.0 we modified our licensing. The application license is now associated with both the Application name and the target installation environment of the developer's application. We now offer “Desktop Application licenses” and “Server Application Licenses”.

Desktop Application license:
The desktop application license allows the developer to install the developer edition of the Amyuni PDF Converter on a PC running XP, Vista, win7 and win8 windows 10 operating systems. One desktop application license is required per application deployment. The application license is associated to a particular application name and not the number of installations or geographic region the application will be used in.

Server Application License:
The server application license will allow the developer to install the developer edition of the Amyuni PDF Converter on a servers running win2003, win2008 and sever 2012 operating systems. One server application license is required per server deployment of the Amyuni PDF Converter. Additionally, the server application license is also associated to a particular application name.
In the case where the developer needs to deploy the Amyuni PDF Converter on another servers, another sever application licenses will be needed.
